28/11/2023 - Festive family fun awaits at Hat Gardens Christmas event
Luton Council is delighted to announce its first Christmas event in the new town centre pocket park. Taking place on Saturday 9 December from 12pm to 4pm, ‘Christmas at Hat Gardens’ promises an afternoon of free festive activities and entertainment.
In partnership with Luton BID, families can capture the magic of the day with festive face-painting and a giant snow globe that promises unforgettable holiday selfies.
The Christmas extravaganza will feature a line-up of live entertainment from local performers, including a DJ and host, singers, steel pan music, and heart-warming choirs delivering your favourite Christmas carols and classics.
Councillor James Taylor, portfolio holder for Inclusive Economy at Luton Council, said "It’s been a delightful year of events in Hat Gardens, establishing itself as a cherished spot for the whole community. We are looking forward to bringing the community together for one final festive celebration as we wrap up the year.”
‘Christmas at Hat Gardens’ builds on the success of the popular community-focused events that have been held in the pocket park this year, including the ‘Outdoor Cinema’ and ‘Yoga in the Park.’
Analysis of town centre footfall indicates a significant positive shift since the opening of the pocket park. While 18 of the first 20 weeks this year experienced lower footfall than the previous year, an impressive 17 out of the last 20 weeks, following the park's opening, witnessed an increase in overall town centre footfall.
Councillor James Taylor added: “This surge in foot traffic demonstrates the pivotal role that Hat Gardens is playing in revitalising the town centre, making it not only a hub for community engagement but also a catalyst for economic opportunity.”
